Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) has become a routine adjunct in oral and implant surgery — an autologous fibrin matrix prepared chairside from a small sample of the patient’s own blood. This guide is strictly about the instruments and sterile handling behind a clean PRF workflow; the clinical protocol, centrifugation and indications are matters of training, current evidence and local governance, not something to take from a supplier’s blog.
1. What PRF is, briefly
PRF is produced by processing a small volume of the patient’s blood so that a fibrin clot rich in platelets and leukocytes forms, which is then used at the surgical site. It is autologous — derived from and returned to the same patient — which is part of its appeal.
2. The processing and handling kit
Beyond the centrifuge itself, a PRF workflow needs sterile instruments to collect, compress and transfer the fibrin. A dedicated PRF & GRF processing cassette keeps the handling instruments organised, sterilisable and together.
3. Sterile transfer and preparation
Fibrin is prepared and shaped on a sterile field; a clean stainless mixing well holds graft material where PRF is combined with a bone substitute. Blood handling carries infection-control and clinical-governance obligations — follow your local policy.
